Bovingdon Green is one of two Dacorum parks eligible to undergo improvements worth thousands of pounds after winning the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge.

More than 300 residents voted for Bovingdon Green and Gadesbridge Park to receive special status as Queen Elizabeth II Fields last November.

Both parks will be protected as green spaces forever to ensure the local community and future generations will always have access to them. An added benefit of the status is access to improvement funds for both the parks.

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Trust is providing £2,500 for each of the chosen parks and the money will be used towards information boards to help visitors understand both areas’ rich history, habitats and wildlife.

At Bovingdon Green, the board will include information about the green and the pond. Councillor Julie Laws, Conservative representative, said: “For two of our parks to receive this status is an honour for Dacorum. The £5,000 will help us to make the most of the parks by improving the visitor experience.”

The Queen Elizabeth II Challenge is a living legacy programme to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the forthcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games.
