Vulnerable residents in Watford will benefit from a share of more than half a million pounds from the Department of Health.
Watford Borough Council is part of a countywide team which was awarded the large sum of money to help reduce excess winter deaths across Hertfordshire.
The money will be used to provide a number of services to support people during the cold months, including additional meals on wheels, help with heating bills and the distribution of warm packs.
Councillor Derek Scudder, cabinet member with responsibility for environmental issues, said: “This project brings together voluntary and social care organisations from across the county to work together to ensure that those in need are receiving the most appropriate help and advice.
“Help is available to vulnerable residents and households who are struggling to keep warm.
“Although the project’s primary focus is elderly residents, other low income households and vulnerable groups such as those with small children can also benefit.”
