Aldenham Parish Council has announced it will be advertising for tenders to undertake a transformation of a large area of scrubland in Radlett.
The committee had previously been in discussions with a third party over the development of Salters Field and Wellhouse Dell but talks were ended by mutual consent earlier this month.
A tender process will now be launched to find contractors to undertake the work, which the council hopes will rejuvenate the areas for community use.
Plans for the site include filling the dell, landscaping the area and planting new trees and it is hoped the remaining land can be used to create sports pitches.
Parish clerk Peter Evans said the project is still in its infancy but that the council’s decision to oversee the plans will give it more control over what happens there.
He said: “We are about a year off from actually advertising the tender as we need to get various planning permissions, though this is a step in the right direction. We see this as a four to five year programme that will ultimately bring the field into recreational use.”
Mr Evans added that the council would consult with local residents where appropriate and keep the nearby Tabard Rugby Football Club and Radlett Cricket Club up to date with progress.
