Residents keen to celebrate the Queen’s forthcoming Diamond Jubilee can now apply to hold a street party in honour of the monarch’s landmark.

Hertfordshire County Council said following the success of the public parties for last year’s royal wedding between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, it is keen to getting preparations underway early this year.

The anniversary, which will mark 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, is on Tuesday June 5 this year and organisers have until May 1 to get their applications for street parties in.

The council said that people planning a small parties aimed at just people on their road will not have to pay an administration fee for their application this year.

Stuart Pile, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "Once again, there will be no fees for anyone who wants to close a residential road for a community event for themselves and their neighbours.

“When we waived fees for royal wedding street parties in 2011, Hertfordshire topped the party league table with nearly 300 street parties.

"It'd be great if we can have a similar response for the Diamond Jubilee. Street parties are a fantastic way of bringing communities together and it's really straightforward to apply."
