Firefighters were called to a flat Bushey after a woman left the property while boiling an egg.
Fire crews from Watford station attended the address in Highfield off High Street at around 9.30pm yesterday.
Neighbours called the emergency services as smoke from the egg had triggered the flat’s fire alarm.
Crew commander Danny Murton, who attended the call, said: “The lady had left her cooking on in the property.
“She was boiling an egg, there was a lot of smoke and it was burned to a pulp.”
Firefighters forced entry and turned the cooker off.
Mr Murton urged people not to leave cooking unattended or kitchen appliances on if leaving the home.
He added: “Please be aware when leaving a property that appliances are turned off.”
