Plans to demolish a warehouse and build a detached home in Radlett were approved by councillors on Thursday.
Despite constituting an “inappropriate” development on green belt land, planning officers recommended the application be approved due to the “very special circumstances” of the development.
The developer argued that it was proving too difficult to secure a commercial tenancy at the site and that the house would improve the visual outlook of the area.
Argyll Properties is now set to go ahead with building the five-bedroom house after members of Hertsmere Council’s planning committee passed the application.
