Residents in Watford are being warned to be on their guard against distraction thieves after woman had her necklace stolen from her in broad daylight.
Hertfordshire Constabulary said the 55-year-old victim from Watford was approached at around 11.15am on Friday as she was getting out of her car in Courtlands Drive by a man and a woman.
Officers said the couple asked directions to the hospital but then offered her jewellery and started placing it on her neck and hand.
Then while she was distracted the woman’s own necklace was removed.
Police are hunting the suspects who were described by the victim as of Asian appearance.
The man is described as aged between 30 and 40 with a heavy build and black hair.
The woman is said to be aged between 25 and 30 years old was wearing a sari and the time and had very long black hair.
The pair were also described as being in a light-coloured car.
Detective Sergeant Jo Goodson, from Watford’s local crime unit, said: “This kind of incident can be very upsetting.
She said: “It’s easy to get distracted, particularly when caught off guard, so I’d ask everyone to be aware of this tactic used by criminals and ask that you share it with your friends and family, especially any who are very elderly and may be more easily confused.”
Anyone with information about the incident are asked to telephone the police immediately on 101.”
