Hundreds of vintage cars passed gracefully through the tranquil streets of Chipperfield as they took part in a historic vehicle tour.

Motorists displayed cars of all colours, shapes and sizes, for the second annual Spirit of Dacorum on Sunday, May 1.

The event is organised to raise money for the Dacorum Community Trust, a charity set up to help those in need within the borough.

David Furnell, organiser and classic car enthusiast, said: “We set up the first ‘Spirit of Dacorum’ vehicle tour in 2009 and it proved a huge success, raising £9,900 for the trust.

“Classic cars are my passion, there really is nothing like them. I’ve never been a fan of the ‘cold radiator’ car shows – where cars are parked up on the grass for people to look around.

“Having a classic car is about showing it off, seeing it in action.”

An estimated 10,000 people lined roads in villages and towns including Chipperfield, Markyate, Ashridge, Tring and Hemel Hempstead for the event.

Mr Furnell added: “We were particularly blessed with the warm weather and I would imagine that we have raised close to the £15,000 mark.

“There were a couple of real show stoppers including a 60s transporter worth about eight million pounds, and a 1903 Edwardian car.

“People were already in a party mood thanks to the royal wedding, but Sunday was all about showing others that as a borough we know how to have a good time.

"The Spirit of Dacorum was alive and well."
