A solicitor from Leavesden swapped the courtroom for the rugby field over the weekend, for a charity rugby match.
Ian Tottman, a former Watford Grammar School pupil, acted as referee for the match between Glenn Phillips All Stars and Simmonds Extra Special Boys team.
Held at Fullerians Rugby Football Club (RFC), it was organised to raise cash for the Watford Stroke Unit after former player Glenn Phillips was partially paralysed from a stroke six years ago.
Mr Tottman, 58, a qualified referee, said: “For more than 85 years Fullerians has provided a safe, fun and successful environment in which to play rugby, a sport I am hugely passionate about.
“It's been an honour to take part in a special match such as this which pays tribute to Glenn's dedication to rugby and the club.
“It's just a small way we can give something back to a local cause that provides huge support for people who have suffered a stroke and we are delighted with the amount that has been raised so far.
“People have been very generous."
Steve Simmonds, Fullerians committee member added: “We decided this would be a great way to raise money for the unit, to do something for Glenn, with a charity last game of the season.
“It went really well with around 150 spectators and 50 players.
“We are still counting the money, but at this stage it's looking like we raised more than £800."
Fullerians has helped raise more than £2,000 for the unit, with a further £800 raised from Saturday’s match.
