Flags were flying at a school in Abbots Langley, as pupils and teachers came together to mark the imminent royal wedding.

Parachute games, a tug of war and sack races kept students from Divine Saviour School occupied, at the event held in the school’s playing fields.

Organised by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), headteacher Philip Gibbs said the school was awash with blue, white and red as children dressed in Union Jack colours for the event on Tuesday, April 14.

He explained: “We really wanted to mark the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton so thought we would hold our very own street party.

“As we broke up a week later than other schools we thought this would be the best day to hold the event.

“Each child was given a Royal Wedding spoon donated by the PTA, which we hope will act as a lasting keepsake.

“There were plenty of games, lots to eat, and everyone really got into the spirit –it will be a day that everyone will remember.”
