Despite being one of the hottest Aprils on record, flash floods caused by heavy Bank Holiday rainfall affected roads and houses in Rickmansworth.
Firefighters and officers from Herts Highways were called to reports of floods between 6.45pm and 7.15pm on Saturday.
The roads affected were High Street, Highfield Way, Scots Hill, Church Street, Park Road and Moor Lane, Chorleywood Road and Sandy Lodge Road.
Fire engines from Watford, Rickmansworth, Garston and Hemel Hempstead were called to clear the drains in High Street, Highfield Way, Scots Hill and Moor Lane.
In Chorleywood Road, water got into a kitchen from the downpipe, and in Sandy Lodge Road a cellar was flooded.
Herts Highways put up flood warning signs in Church Street and High Street, and the flooding in Park Road and Moor Lane had cleared by the time officers got there.
Jo Brown, from Hertfordshire County Council, said: “When there is exceptionally heavy rainfall, as there was on Saturday evening, the sheer volume of water inevitably causes flash flooding.”
