Residents across Dacorum are being asked by the borough council to report any fly-tippers.
According to the council, over the bank holiday period in particular, the number of people illegally dumping waste increases.
Fly-tipping is a criminal offence with a penalty of up to £50,000 and/or one year's imprisonment from a magistrates’ court.
Dumped rubbish is not just an eyesore, it can be dangerous to road users and wildlife and may attract vermin.
It can also cost the council more than £500 of public money to clear each incident of dumped waste.
Residents are asked to note down the registration of any vehicle used to dump waste, the exact location and a description of the person fly-tipping.
To report an incident call the council on: 01442 228000 and ask for waste services or visit: www.dacorum.gov.uk
