Perched atop a barn roof, Annie stares out into the distance, squawking for her Henry.
According to owner, Paul Webb, his peahen Annie has been beside herself since her feathered friend Henry, the peacock, was “bird-napped” from their Bovingdon home.
Annie first hit the headlines about a year ago, after she had Kings Langley residents in a flap with her incessant squawking and fondness for eating their prized-plants.
But after reading about Annie’s mischievous adventures in the village, Mr Webb, of Berry Farm, came forward to offer her a permanent home alongside his lonely peacock, Henry.
The love birds quickly settled into a routine and according to Mr Webb were inseparable – that was, until a few weeks ago.
The 40-year-old explained: “I came down to the barn and the door had been unlocked.
“When I looked inside, Henry was gone and Annie was wandering around aimlessly, looking for him.
“We’re absolutely sure he’s been taken. He goes out and around the farm, but he never strays because he’s got Annie.
“We keep dogs on the property, but it was one of the few evenings we had kept them in their kennels for the evening, so they didn’t sound the alarm.
"We've not reported it to the police. I don't think they can do too much about a stolen bird.”
Henry, who has an impressive blue and green plumage, is not tagged, but Mr Webb is hoping if anyone has seen the bird they will come forward with information.
He said: “Annie and Henry had two new peahen companions, who we’ve not yet named, added to their brood.
“Maybe being surrounded by so many females just got a bit too much for Henry.
“But to be fair, he only really had eyes for Annie, so we’re sure he’s not just wandered off.
“It’s a real shame. They’d finally found each other, but now they’re apart.
“Poor Annie has taken to the barn roof, she just sits up there, staring into the distance, and calling out for him. She’s beside herself.”
