A multi-vehicle crash along the A41 this morning has resulted in ten people being hospitalised.
At about 9.15am, police, paramedics, fire crews and an air ambulance were called to the A41, at Junction 20 of the M25.
This followed reports of a ten vehicle smash in the westbound section of the road (going towards Hemel Hempstead).
Police confirmed there are ten casualties and that the road, which is shut in both directions, is expected to be closed for the foreseeable future.
Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "This was a very delicate incident to deal with, involving heavy goods vehicles and several cars and a van.
"Paramedics worked closely with the doctor and critical care paramedic from the air ambulance to treat and triage the ten casualties.”
Gary added: “One of the injured, a woman received a serious injury and she was flown direct to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to provide information to police on non-emergency number: 0845 33 00 222.
