Abbots Langley has hosted the county’s biggest ever jigsaw puzzle sale to help raise cash to continue the refurbishment of the village’s community centre.
Hundreds of puzzles were up for grabs at the village’s “Jigfest” in a bid to give the Abbots Langley Community Centre project a cash boost.
Volunteers had been beavering away since September to ensure all the puzzles, which were donated from villagers, were completed in time for the event.
The variety of puzzles, some limited editions, were built in sections before being replaced in their boxes in layers ready to reappear for the display.
As crowds of visitors filled the community centre in Manor House Grounds on Saturday and Sunday, volunteers worked continually to replace the puzzles as they were sold.
Brian Hibberd, Jigfest organiser, said: “The idea of the jigfest came after seeing the Isle of Wight jigsaw festival.
“Although numbers were a bit down on previous years, largely because the weather was too good for people to resist going to outside events and place, more than 250 came along.
“We had a lot of very appreciative comments and raised about £1,750.
“All of the cash will be put towards the next phase in the community centre refurbishment programme.
“The centre is now being widely used and is very busy, but we want to keep it looking fresh and up-to-date – this is our priority now.”
