Police are opposing an application by a Watford bar to extend its opening hours.
Bosses at 143 Bar, in The Parade, has applied to Watford Borough Council to extend its licensing hours by one hour on Fridays and Saturdays – from midnight to 1pm.
Hertfordshire Constabulary is maintaining its policy of resistance to extensions in the town centre, where alcohol related crime and disorder continue to cause officers problems.
PC Andy Crisp, licensing enforcement officer, said in a council report: “These premises are located within an area of the town that already has an abundance of licensed premises.
“The cumulative impact of these premises cause crime and disorder on such a scale, that Hertfordshire Constabulary have to dedicate considerable resources on foot every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“Any increase in these hours within this area will undoubtedly lead to an increase in crime and disorder levels that are currently suffered.”
