Watford Mencap held a ‘Reminiscence’ Coffee Morning on Thursday 7th April to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee. The event, organised by Alf Loose and Monica Griffin, brought together parents and carers involved with the charity over the last 60 years. Janet Speed and Angela Pickford, residents of Watford Mencap homes, served drinks and had baked cakes.

Those present remarked on the way Watford Mencap has changed, along with attitudes to learning disability. They had used Watford Mencap’s services: for example when Olive Rowe had to go into hospital, Watford Mencap workers had supported her son Malcolm. Members had also volunteered: Monica Griffin works in the North Watford shop and Tony Putman drove the minibus.

At the end of the coffee morning Liz Bacon proposed a vote of thanks to Alf Loose for his untiring work over many years.
