Veterans across Dacorum have been recognised for their services to Queen and country with badges of honour.

More than 30 veterans were given the Ministry of Defence’s Veterans Badge at a ceremony at the Royal British Legion Club in Queensway, Hemel Hempstead, on Thursday, April 7.

The evening was opened by club vice chairman Bob Trevett and club president Bernie Kelly.

Chairman of the Hemel Hempstead branch of the Royal British Legion, Royal Navy veteran Peter Gibbons, acted as master of ceremonies.

Mike Penning presented a cheque to retired Major Bob Fisher, president of the Hemel Hempstead Branch of the Royal British Legion to go towards the Legion’s 90th anniversary celebrations in August.

Mr Penning, conservative representative, said: “This country owes much to our veterans who have served on our behalf.

“Our servicemen and women are serving today in Afghanistan and in the past weeks in the enforcement of the UN’s no-fly zone over Libya.

“I urge recipients to wear their badge often and with pride. This is our eighth presentation evening and I am delighted that people are still coming forward to apply.”
