Pupils explored their family history as lessons followed in the footsteps of a popular BBC television programme.
In the final week before it breaks up for the Easter holiday, Leavesden Green JMI Primary School set tasks and activities with a genealogical theme, using inspiration from the show Who Do You Think You Are?
They wrote imagined biographies, looked into their family trees and painted self-portraits, before parents were invited to visit the High Road school today (Friday) to see their work.
Headteacher Anne Cook said: “It’s all been based on biographies and auto-biographies, focusing on who they are; their families and famous people such as Louis Braille, Beatrix Potter and Roald Dahl.
“They also had a big homework project they have done with their parents about their families.”
Pupils and staff also took part in a quiz to guess the identity of Leavesden’s teachers from their baby photographs.
“It’s about developing community cohesion along with the school,” said Mrs Cook.
“It’s great for the parents to come up for the open afternoon because they’re part of the community, and it’s a way of linking, developing and building links with the community.”
Year 5 teacher Andrew Budd said his pupils had enjoyed researching their family histories.
“It’s been fascinating,” he said. “They’ve put a lot of effort into their work.”
