As regular readers of my blog will know, engaging with younger people in Watford and Three Rivers is a big priority for the Trust. I am delighted that this week we agreed that a brand new radio station for Watford, Vibe 107.6, will broadcast from our offices. Vibe Radio has been awarded a full-time licence for a new community radio station in Watford.
Vibe 107.6 is a ‘not-for-profit’ community radio station which will play a mixture of dance, R & B, hip hop, current hits and local news targeting 13 to 25-year-olds. They will:
• Provide a platform for young people to discuss issues such as anti-social behaviour, crime, bullying, sexual health & racism
• Celebrate the diversity of the Watford & Three Rivers communities
•Enable local talent from singers to bands to air their work
• Train young people in broadcasting, alongside developing key skills, utilising a team with years of radio experience and connections with BBC Three Counties Radio
Funding and support from our Better Communities Fund (BCF), as well as funds donated by Watford’s Round table, has made the move possible. Our BCF panel chose Vibe 107.6 as one of its key projects to improve the quality of life for residents in Watford and Three Rivers.
The lease has now been signed and the studio will shortly be built on the second floor of our offices in Clarendon Road. The station will start broadcasting this summer.
This is a really exciting project for Watford. As I just love “house music” I can’t wait to start listening to Vibe as they will be playing “garage” music as well!! If you would like any further details please contact me at trusty.house@wcht.org.uk
