The name of a Watford solider killed in Afghanistan will be engraved on a national memorial.
Corporal Christopher Harrison, 26, of Bravo Company 40 Commando Royal Marines, died in an explosion while leading a patrol in Sangin on May 9, 2010.
The former Parmiter’s School pupil, from Northwestern Avenue, was one of 112 UK servicemen and women who lost their lives on duty or through terrorism last year.
And their names will now be added to the Armed Forces Memorial, at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
Work on the memorial, completed by engraver Nick Hindle, will start on Monday, April 11.
The 112 deaths in 2010 is one of the largest loss of lives in more than two decades.
Once the work is completed, a special service for families will be held later this year.
Cpl Harrison’s father Martin said: “We were quite pleased when we heard.
“We’re obviously very proud. The time lapse since the original news of Chris’s death has softened the blow a bit and we’ve had more time to think.
“It’s a nice way to remember him. We’re very proud that his name will be remembered but we would rather have Chris.”
