It is now less than a month to go until the Watford 10k 2011, on May 2nd in Cassiobury Park, and Cassiobury Infants School are showing their support by backing the event.
The Watford 10k, which is now in its 14th year, consists of the 10k race for over 15’s as well as two fun runs, a 1k and a 3k for younger children. The 1k race for under 9’s, is being sponsored by the Mothercare Foundation, with the aim to make it a more family friendly event.
Cassiobury Infants School have been actively promoting the event over the years and always have pupils deciding to take up the challenge. This year, they invited Lauren McEvoy, Fundraiser at Watford Mencap, and Simone Spencer-Ahmed from the Mothercare Foundation to talk to the school in their Friday assembly, to encourage more children to take part.
Simone Spencer-Ahmed from the Mothercare Foundation commented;
‘The Mothercare Group Foundation is delighted to be supporting this fantastic local community event raising money for Watford Mencap Children’s Centre and other local charities. It was lovely to see the enthusiasm on the children’s face at Cassiobury Infants School. We look forward to seeing them all on the day.’
Lauren McEvoy, Fundraiser at Watford Mencap explained;
‘We want the Watford 10k to be an event for the whole family. It is important that the whole community can be involved, not just the adults and serious runners. We are very excited to have Mothercare on board this year, promoting the event. We want to make the 1k and 3k bigger and are encouraging other schools to follow Cassiobury Infants lead’.
The event is run jointly by the Watford Roundtable and Watford Mencap and all money raised goes towards supporting the Watford Mencap Children’s Centre and other worthwhile local causes. The event is a fun day out for everyone with medals and t-shirts for all runners and trophies for the winners.
There is still time to sign up to the 10k, 3k and 1k races at www.watford10k.org.uk.
