A teenager is more than half way to reaching her goal of swimming the distance of the English Channel and back during Lent.
Heidi Walsh, 13, has so far swum 2,283 lengths (35.46 miles) out of a total of 4,055 lengths that measure the distance from Dover to Calais and back.
The St Michael’s Catholic High School pupil was inspired to undertake the challenge to raise money for the Garston school’s Rwanda appeal.
Students have previously paid for a 4x4 vehicle, a new water pipe in Mubuga and repairs to a reservoir in Kirahura.
This year they hope to fund livestock, education and new homes.
Heidi has been swimming about 100m every day since Wednesday, March 9 and has so far raised more than £200.
