Daredevil women across the county have put their pedal to the metal and helped raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Hundreds of women took part in this year’s Ladies Driving Challenge at Bovingdon Airfield to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity and Grove House Hospice.
Thrill-seekers were able to try their hand at manoeuvring a range of different vehicles including fire engines, buses and tractors - all donated by local companies, on Sunday, September 26.
Laura Harden, event organiser, said: “The Ladies Driving Challenge was an exciting day, where the ladies managed to raise around £15,000 for the charities.
“We would like to thank all those who took part, the venue owners for the ‘loan’ of their premises, local companies who supported us and our volunteers on the day.
“Without them the day would not have been such a great success.”
Another Ladies Driving Challenge is planned for 2011. To take part entrants should request a registration pack from Laura Harden on: 01476 567750 or lharden@firefighterscharity.org.uk.
Alternatively Liz Hizli from Grove House Hospice on: 01727 731000 or liz.hizli@grove-house.org.uk.
