Kings Langley resident Roger Pillinger has sent Nostalgia his memories of Cookery Nook, in The Parade, Watford.
Mr Pillinger, from Blackwell Road, said: “It was a nice and clean restaurant with white and pink tablecloths and real napkins. You had to climb a flight of stairs to get to it.
“They served proper English food as well as food of today. I first visited the restaurant in 1979 with my wife and went there for several years. I was very sorry to see it go. Now it is a clients’ bureau for jobs. You got first class service at Cookery Nook.”
Mr Pillinger also recalled an airship that was once stationed at Leavesden Airfield.
He said: “I have recently got to the stage in life when you can get a free bus pass because of age, and a little time ago I ventured out by bus north of Luton and passed two big hangars where an airship was stationed.
“That reminded me of the airship that was stationed at Leavesden Airfield for a few weeks. I think it was in the summer of 1972 or 1973, which had a television platform on it, and flew over this area and the neighbouring counties including Watford. Does anyone remember it?”
Also on the subject of Cookery Nook, Susan Henderson, of Courtlands Drive, Watford, wrote: “As a schoolgirl at Gartlet Private School, I used to have my lunch every Friday at Cookery Nook.
“There was no school on Friday afternoon and, therefore, no school dinners. Two ladies used to run the restaurant.”
