Parents have expressed fears for the safety of children in an accident black spot in Radlett.
Emotions are running high after five people were taken to hospital following a head-on car crash on Monday, in Shenley Hill.
Residents a few hundred yards from the accident said the road was “particularly bad” for accidents, especially at the crossroads of Williams Way and The Avenue.
Louise Trager, 34, of Shenley Hill, said: “We've lived here just over a year now, and I believe there have been four crashes in that time.
“These corners are particularly bad because there is a crossroad with no traffic lights.
“There was a crash about four months ago where a woman came up onto the grass verge and knocked the water main. “Schoolchildren stand here in the morning for their coach. If it had been at that time they might have been hurt. Living here does make us worry about the children.”
A report published last month by Admiral car insurance said 26 per cent of drivers in Radlett have a speeding conviction.
James McDermott, 88, of Shenley Road, said: “Cars are exceeding the speed limit, I have to be very careful when backing out of my drive. Most of the traffic seems to be travelling too fast.”
One neighbour, who wished not to be named, recalled an incident in which a car was flipped onto its roof. She said: “In the past couple of years, there have been some serious accidents on this road.”
