A fire engine collided with a car as it raced to answer an emergency call.
The vehicle, from Watford fire station, was heading along St Albans Road, towards the Dome roundabout, when a silver Honda Civic turned into its path towards Asda supermarket, an eyewitness told the Watford Observer.
Police were called to the scene at 5.18pm and both vehicles were recovered at about 6.26pm. There were no serious injuries caused in the incident.
Paul Damary, a security consultant from Rochester Drive, was walking home when he saw the collision take place outside Garston Fire Station.
He said the fire engine, with flashing blue lights on and siren blaring, collided with the car as it turned into the supermarket entrance.
“She just pulled out and the fire engine went straight into her,” he said. “I had to dodge out of the way.”
A Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue representative said the fire engine was on its way to deal with a small fire in Leavesden Country Park, off College Road, Abbots Langley, when the collision occurred. A second engine from Watford attended the incident in its place.
