A school leaver from Chorleywood has been given the chance to take a front row seat on the London 2012 Olympic Games organising committee.

Jack Freeman, who attended St Clement Danes School in Chenies Road, has started an internship with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

The 17-year-old will spend two months in the brand and marketing department, and after four months he will take up a permanent role in a department which suits his skills and interests.

He said: “Working at London 2012 is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’m excited about the games as it will give everyone including other young people like myself a chance to participate.

“I’m looking forward to be being part of the team who will be organising such an amazing event.”

During a two-week induction Mr Freeman also got a chance to meet Boris Johnson, Olympic and Paralympic gold medallists Jonathan Edwards and Chris Holmes, and toured the Olympic park.

Boris Johnson said: "It was a pleasure to welcome such an enthusiastic bunch of young adults into City Hall and answer their questions.

“I wish them the very best of luck over the coming two years and look forward to meeting them again as we all prepare for the eyes of the world to focus on London.”

Mr Freeman is taking part in the Get Ahead School Leavers' Programme, which offers school or college leavers a placement within the committee, to progress to a full time role after training.

Paul Deighton, chief executive of LOCOG, said: “London 2012 is proud to welcome these young school leavers. Our organisation can benefit from their energy, enthusiasm and passion.

“I am looking forward to working with them with and achieving our vision of inspiring the youth of the world with these bright and talented people.”
