Schools across Hertfordshire could be in with a chance of winning solar panels as part of nationwide competition.
All schools in the United Kingdom are eligible to enter British Gas’ £15 million solar panel giveaway, with panels worth between £20,000 and £40,000 up for grabs.
To win the prize, entrants will need to demonstrate they are among the most sustainable in the country, with judges considering the school’s commitment to the environment, its ability to engage and benefit the wider community and the originality of their entry.
Under the competition, up to 750 schools will receive the prizes, with around half going to schools in low income areas.
Besides the solar panels, which could cut as much as 20 per cent off an annual electricity bill, schools will also receive a free energy display meter, which will help reduce energy consumption by a further ten to 15 per cent.
The competition comes from “British Gas’s Generation Green Programme”, a 10,000 strong schools programme.
