Commuters at a Watford railway station have been invited to help celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Watford North Station, in Bushey Mill Lane, was opened on October 1 1910 as Callowland Halt, standing in secluded countryside on the edge of the town.

In 1927 the station, which served the London North Western Railway, was renamed Watford North, fuelling a housing boom in the area through the 1930s.

Travellers passing through the station at 5pm on Friday can witness a short ceremony, a photo exhibition examining the station’s history, and even the cutting of a birthday cake.
