Vulnerable adults will have access to a number of help points across Bushey thanks to a new scheme launched this morning.
As part of the Keep Safe initiative, about 35 premises have been designated as help points for adults with learning disabilities who may feel threatened or need assistance.
The premises, which include the Bushey Library and shops in the Bushey Heath parade, will display a Keep Safe sticker in their window and staff have been instructed in how to help.
Stephanie Allen, 23, who is participating in the scheme, said: "It gives me peace of mind. If I had my handbag stolen or something I would be able to report it and get some help from somewhere nearby - it is good, I'm really pleased about it.”
Hertsmere Mayor Linda Silver launched the initiative by releasing a bunch of balloons at Bushey Library, in Sparrows Herne.
She said: "Feeling safe is something that everyone needs and it is great that this is available. I think more should be done to make people feel safer in their communities."
The Keep Safe scheme is organised by Hertfordshire Constabulary along with Aldwyck Housing, which offers accomodation for those with disabilities, and Hertfordshire County Council.
Bushey PCSO Carole Bull said: “The project will make it safer and easier for vulnerable adults to be out on their own – it is brilliant. We do a lot of work with vulnerable people in Bushey and to see how much they have come on and grown in confidence, through initiatives like this one, is fantastic.”
