Fun runners and tough trainers will take to the streets of Abbots Langley this Sunday [October 3], for the annual Tough Ten race.

The event, in its 28th year, will be opened by former Watford and England manager Graham Taylor.

Originally started to help raise money for MENCOP, a charity run by serving and retired police officers to help people with learning disabilities, it now helps local clubs, schools and charities.

Some of the money raised from last year’s event paid for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as well as an AED trainer, for first aiders at the Abbots Langley Red Cross Centre.

The machine which will be used at local events, analyses why the heart stops due to abnormal rhythm, providing first aiders with instructions on what action to take.

Organisers of this year’s event expect more than 600 runners to take part and proceedings will start at the Manor House Grounds, Gallows Lane, Abbots Langley.

Races open to participants include family favourite the 1.5k at 9.30am, 3k and 5k runs at 10am, as well as the 10k event at 10.30am.

Application forms are still available from Langley Travel and Spicer McColl in Abbots Langley High Street or can be downloaded from the website www.tough10.co.uk.

It is also possible to register online at www.runnersworld.co.uk.
