Plans are being drawn up for a new clubhouse at a popular sailing club, after the existing 80-year-old old facility was deemed “not fit for purpose”.
The feasibility of a new building for Bury Lake Young Mariners, based in Rickmansworth Aquadrome, is currently being investigated by Sports Solutions GB (SSGB).
Bury Lake Young Mariners is home to 29 groups and used by 25 schools, as well as running training courses and catering for disabled sailors.
The current clubhouse, which is leased by the council, is nearly a hundred years old and is no longer fit for purpose, due to limited changing facilities and teaching space.
With an active youth committee, 90 qualified instructors and more than 100 boats, the plans to build a new clubhouse will enable an already club to further increase participation in sailing.
Chris Bevan, SSGB’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to work with Bury Lake Young Mariners.”
He added that the feasibility study will be completed by the end of this year.
