Runners of all shapes and sizes will be lining up to set personal bests at the Moor Park 10k this weekend.
Louise Simpson, who has been blind since birth, is hoping to find a “running guide” to help her around the course, so she can achieve her target time of an hour.
Ms Simpson, who lives in Newcastle, travels the country taking part in running events, and has recently run in Liverpool, Salisbury and Bedford.
She said: “They don't need to have done this before, all they need to do is let me gently hold their arm and warn me of any hazards such as speed bumps.
“It would be great to be able to take part so I do hope a local person will feel able to volunteer to help me."
Louise will not be the first blind person to take part in the Stewarts Law Moor Park 10k at Merchant Taylors' School, a blind member of local running club, Metros, is a regular participant in the event.
This event, now in its ninth year, is organised by local charity the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, based at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, and runners can still enter the race on Sunday.
To volunteer as a guide telephone Buzz Coster on 07711 567864.
