Rickmansworth School is looking forward to another successful year of fundraising thanks to its newly reformed charity committee.

Sixth-form students Kishan Patel, Suzi Baldwin, Priyan Kagohel, Samirah Sonji, Donna Omovbude, Aisha Shakeel helped to raise more than £1,000 for Oxfam and others last year.

Now, the committee, under the guidance of teacher Lucy Bristow, has turned its attention towards the Haiti earthquake disaster for this year's campaign.

Ms Shakeel said: “A lot of the people we saw on the news were our age so we could relate to them, sometimes we complain about not having enough clothes but they didn't have any clothes at all.”

After the first meeting of the new school term, the committee has started to draw up plans to bag groceries at local supermarkets.

Teacher Lucy Bristow said: “I'm really proud of what they've done, last year they raised £661 for Oxfam and a further £800 for other charities.

“I've been involved with the committee since April 2010, but they've done all the work and they're raised all of the money.”
