Plans to build 16 affordable homes in north Watford were deferred to allow councillors time to conduct a site visit.
Members of Watford Borough Council's development control committee last night (Tuesday) heard an application from Network Housing Group Limited to build 12 two-bedroom houses, three three-bedroom houses, one two-bedroom wheelchair accessible house and parking on vacant land at Callowland Place, in Callowland Close.
However, during the meeting, councillors said that when they had previously tried to visit the location, they were unable to get on site because it was locked.
Members, therefore, unanimously agreed to defer the application to a later hearing so a full site visit could take place.
The application has received the backing of Town Hall planning officers who, in a report, said the development will “create a high quality environment with its own character and appearance and will enhance the character and appearance of the local area”.
However, committee members also expressed their concern about the proximity of the new houses to homes in Shakespeare Street.
