An 87-year-old woman from Chorleywood, suffering from terminal cancer, has written a book about the final chapter of her life.
Myra Chave-Jones of Cedars Village, has spent the last months of her life writing a book entitled ‘My Swan Song’, about the different stages of life.
A retired Christian psychotherapist, she hopes her series of reflections on life, old age and dying, will help others facing terminal illness.
Miss Chave-Jones said: “I’m writing for everyone who thinks about the big questions of life, such as death and illness.
“Everybody has questions, and most will ask ‘what next?’ when they are faced with a serious diagnosis.”
Diagnosed with cancer four years ago, doctors told Miss Chave-Jones she would not live more than a few months.
She agreed to initial treatment, but as the cancer spread, she declined further treatment beyond respite care.
Instead she turned her attention to writing a book about the wisdom and stresses that come with age, delving into the experience of her former professional life as a counsellor.
After co-founded the therapy organisation Care and Counsel in 1972, she has written six other self-help books, including “Coping With Depression”, “The Gift of Helping”, and “Living With Anger”.
The book will be on sale from October 9, and is available from Chorleywood Bookshop.
