A football fan has been banned from Millwall FC for five years after confronting Lloyd Doyley during the Hornet's emphatic 6-1 victory.
The 22-year-old, a member of the armed forces, climbed onto the pitch and ran over to defender Doyley before he was dragged away by a steward and Millwall striker Neil Harris during Saturday's nPower Championship match.
He has now been arrested for pitch incursion and banned from The Den for a minimum of five years.
As the pitch invader was led back into the stand, he was then punched by another fan, 41, who was later arrested on suspicion of affray and also faces a ban.
Following the result, the first time ever six different scorers have netted in an away match for the Hornets, Watford manager Malky Mackay said: “It’s happened and thankfully Lloyd wasn’t attacked and to be fair to him he was very calm and it didn’t seem to affect him in any way. I thought he was fantastic today. It didn’t affect him and it’s something that might have affected some people.”
A Millwall FC representative said today (Tuesday) the pitch invader was not a season ticket holder or member of the south London club and had entered the ground for the match using a child ticket.
He said: “We're immensely disappointed that this incident of one individual getting on the pitch has again drawn attention to Millwall for the wrong reasons.
“The reaction of the majority of the crowd just shows that the message has got across to our own supporters that their behaviour is always under the microscope. This individual wasn't a Millwall supporter. He wasn't known to us or a season ticket holder or member and he won't be coming to the ground for the foreseeable future.”
