Burglars broke into a village supermarket and escaped with cash from four tills during a night-time raid.

Four men forced their way into Tesco Express, in Harcourt Road, Bushey, jumped over the counter and removed the tills, stealing an unknown amount of cash, between 11.20pm and 11.28pm on Saturday.

They then got into a dark coloured Vauxhall and drove off along Harcourt Road.

The men are all described as between 18 and 22 years old and were wearing hooded jumpers with the hoods pulled over their faces.

DC Paul Spencer, from the Local Crime Unit in Borehamwood, said: “There were four members of staff in the shop when these offenders forced their way in to commit this burglary, which was very frightening for them. No one was harmed during the incident and we don’t believe the offenders were carrying weapons.

“I am very keen to determine who is responsible for this burglary and believe there were people who saw the offenders leaving the scene in the car, particularly as the vehicle had to stop at the traffic lights on Harcourt Road.

Another business owner from Bushey, who prefered to not be named, said he had CCTV images of the entrance to his shop being vandalised overnight.

He said: "I work all day long, I'm here to make money legally, not like these idiots who to break into property for some quick money."
