The colourful floral displays at Chelsea Flower Show were central to this month’s meeting of the Abbots Langley Gardening Society.
Visitors flocked to the Manor House Sports and Social Centre in Abbots Langley for a talk and slide show about designing gardens for the world’s most famous flower show.
Guest speakers and garden designers Janet Honour and Patricia Thirion, first exhibited at the prestigious event in 2007.
Describing to attendees how their first entry, “Le Jardin de Vincent”, consisted of a typical cottage scene in Provence, they explained how they had created a blue and yellow floral garden.
In the garden stood an easel holding an unfinished painting in the style of Vincent Van Gogh, a yellow chair, a straw hat and a pair of garden boots.
They were awarded a silver gilt medal for their efforts and have taken part in the show ever since.
Joyce Davies, society member, said: “The meeting on Thursday [September 16] was a delightful evening of tales of near catastrophes and fun.”
The Abbots Langley Gardening Society meets every third Thursday in the month at the Manor House Sports and Social Centre, in Gallows Hill Lane, Abbots Langley.
Proceedings start at 8pm and visitors are welcome for a fee of £1.
