Orchestral players are invited to attend Watford Philharmonic’s Watford Live! workshop, which kickstarts the group’s ambitious scheme to play all of Hadyn’s 104 symphonies.

For some time, Jeanne Mann, Watford Phil’s orchestra leader, has had a dream of getting together with other musician friends to play Haydn’s entire symphonic repertoire and, with your help, the first stage of this dream can be realised at an orchestral workshop this Sunday.

Musicians interested in attending the workshop at Watford Museum should be players of grade 6 and above. There will be a rehearsal leading to a performance of Symphonies 1, 30, 54 and 103, though no percussion or trombones will be required.

The Drumroll, Symphony 103 in E flat major, has special connections with England as it was written in 1795 when it is known Haydn was visiting London. It may even have been written in Hertfordshire since the famous composer had friends in the area.

The museum will be opened specially for this event which will run from 2pm to 5pm.

Visitors are also welcome to come along and listen, space permitting. On the day, audiences will be able to learn more about the work of Watford Philharmonic Society and enjoy some music at the same time.

Funding is now being sought for a series of monthly workshops to be held over the coming two years to enable the society to perform Haydn’s symphonies in their entirety.
