DRIVERS are being sought by an Abbots Langley charity to provide transport for the elderly and infirm.
The Abbots Langley Good Neighbours Association (ALGNA) needs volunteers, even if it is just one day a week, to help them take villagers to various appointments at doctors, dentists and hospitals. A mileage allowance is paid.
The charity has been helping residents since 1966 and over the past three years has answered more than 700 calls for assistance.
While transport is one of the most frequently needed forms of assistance, ALGNA has recently been able to provide grants to schools and residents thanks to a sizeable legacy which has been donated.
Sums ranging from £2,000 to £2,500 have been awarded to Abbots Langley, Tannerswood and Divine Saviour schools and also to the NCH home in Adrian Road (as reported in last week's Watford Observer).
Local residents have benefited from the funds with help towards wheelchairs, beds and household equipment.
