A-LEVEL results day is an emotional time whatever the outcome, but with a growing number of students who do not receive their predicted grades, the emotions and nerves are heightened, as plans for their future may be put on hold.
The University of Hertfordshire has set up a clearing hotline for students who did not achieve their predicted grade in their A-levels, and could therefore lose a university place, to call for advice on what to do next.
The hotline is open from results day on Thursday, August 18, for all students to telephone to see if they can still be offered a university place.
Last year the hotline received more than 7,000 calls on its opening day, and is preparing for a similar number of calls this year.
All calls will initially be taken by a clearing networker, who will discuss the student's ideal subject area.
The student will then be passed on to an academic decision maker, who will collect the student's details, including qualifications, so universities can assess the suitablity of them as a prospective student.
For students who have not achieved their desired grades, there are a number of options available, including a degree course, extended degree course or a foundation degree course.
All staff at the hotline are trained in advance of results day to give students the best advice and support during this difficult period.
For advice after receiving A-level grades, telephone 01707 2848484. Lines opened on Thursday, August 18.
