A NEW junior golf champion has been crowned at Little Hay Golf Club, Bovingdon.
Nick Jefferson, 15, from Hemel Hempstead, won the title of Little Hay Golf Club Junior Champion in style by breaking the course record. In the competition on Monday and Tuesday, he beat the previous course record of 69 by returning a score of 66.
He then scored 69 in the second round, and ended the event with a record nine under par.
Nick said: "I have been playing for a number of years now and I would like to say thank you to my parents, and to Chris Gordon, Nick Allen and Michael Perry at the complex.
"Their support, combined with my hard work and determination, have made this achievement possible."
Nick got involved in the sport through the golf foundation development classes run by Little Hay Golf Complex.
He then entered the Little Hay Golf Club Junior section.
Ian Richardson, captain of Little Hay Golf Club, praised Nick's achievement. He said: "The club is extremely proud of him, as indeed we are of all our juniors.
"We have a thriving junior section and this is an example of what hard work, dedication and talent can achieve."
