A SEVENTEEN year old from Wheathampstead has won a place in the British Judo Association National Junior Squad.

Helen Robertson, who attends Sandringham School in Wheathampstead, was selected to the squad after a succesful performance in the British Youth Closed Championships which were held in Cannock earlier this year. Helen fought more than 20 players at the championship and won a bronze medal.

This performance followed on from her silver medal in the British Schools' national championships in Merseyside which were held in March.

She will now join the squad for training sessions throughout 1998 and represent Great Britain in international competitions.

The elite squad will be groomed to become members of the senior team, which will compete in Olympic, Commonwealth Games and The World Championships.

The call up comes after a successful year for Helen who won a bronze medal in the World Schools' Tournament which was held in France in June. She has also won numerous medals in senior competitions and has appeared in the senior ladies top ten rankings.
