ROUND the clock building work at Cheapside Farm would be an unacceptable burden for local residents to bear, councillors have ruled.
A plan to introduce twilight working hours on the controversial site - where sports facilities for St Albans School and the Old Albanians Association are being constructed - will come before a public inquiry in July.
St Albans district councillors met last week to discuss the proposal and voted to send a firm "no" message to the Government inspectors in July.
After several years of attempting to get permission for works on the Harpenden Road site, the school and its old boys' association finally got their way in May 1996, although the district council imposed strict working hours.
The new proposal is to scrap all these regulations, apart from the Sunday and bank holiday restrictions.
The developers claim the more hours they can work, the quicker the project will be completed.
The public inquiry will be held on July 7.
