WATFORD LADIES made a 330-mile round trip lasting eight hours on Sunday - and did not get to kick a ball.
For the second time in a week, their Fourth Round FA Cup tie with Sheffield Wednesday was postponed, but this time Watford travelled all the way there.
Amazingly, the team bus had just turned into the road leading to the Coach and Horses ground when manager Norman Burns received a call on his mobile phone, telling him the pitch was waterlogged.
The FA have told Watford they will pay £160 towards the £285 costs incurred on the wasted trip, but Watford will still have to travel to Sheffield this week.
However, the FA have informed the two teams that, should the game be postponed for a third time, it will be switched to Watford the following week.
"The pitch was under water on Sunday. Since then, it has snowed. Norman felt the pitch would need a week without any more wet weather just to have a chance of being playable," said Watford Ladies' Phil Longuehaye.
