WE don't normally cover folk on Pop Pourri, primarily because it boring old tripe that's usually enjoyed by corn-chewers.
However (deep breath) new folk act Windward deserve a mention because they are...new.
Well not that new, because the press information tells me that the individuals have a wealth of experience in traditional and contemporary music spanning more than three decades.
Anyway here's something to whet your appetite for a bit of Windward: "As an alternative to session music, Windward involve their audiences in songs with gutsy choruses. They like nothing more than getting the audience to sing and sing loud with bags of harmony."
And Windward aren't just your bog standard bass/drums/guitar outfit, they experiment with flute, bodhran, whistle and spoons . . .SPOONS!
So bring your cutlery and get down to the Waggon and Horses on the A5183 Radlett to Borehamwood Road on Thursday (January 29) or every Friday at the Six Bells in St Michael's Street, St Albans.
Another completely new Watford band on the scene is Snog. Formed in October last year the line-up consists of Andy Streeter on bass and vocals, Sean Connolly on drums and Mark Allison on guitar and vocals. They play rock covers with some original material. They play The Bell in Kings Langley on Saturday.
Those short of somewhere to rehearse without paying over the odds can fret no more. The Landing Zone at West Herts College is available on Monday nights for hire. It costs £15 for the evening. Anyone interested call Liam on 01923 250353.
