A WASTE company in St Albans has been fined for failing to give the Environment Agency details of how it disposes of trade waste.
SL Food Limited, of Abbots Road West, pleaded guilty at Stevenage Magistrates Court last week and was fined £150 and ordered to pay the Environment Agency's costs of £225.
The agency had been asked to serve the notice on the company by St Albans District Council, which does not have the power to do so itself because it is not a waste regulation authority.
At the hearing, Sirazul Rahman, a director of SL Food, entered the guilty plea and was told the court saw the offence as a serious matter because it is important for the waste regulation authority and the local authority to be aware of how waste is being dealt with.
Since there was no evidence that the waste concerned was toxic, and because the company pleaded guilty, the court decided the fine imposed should be less than it otherwise would have been.
