CAMPAIGNERS protested against plans to extract gravel from land at Oaklands College, St Albans, on Monday.
A group of around 60 people waved placards and urged passing motorists to toot their horns to support their opposition to St Albans Sand and Gravel's proposals.
Protester Noreen Brosnan went into the college to present a petition to principal Liz Cristofoli, who assured her there would be dialogue between the college and residents if the plans go ahead.
Ms Brosnan said: "If the college had been more open and respectful to their neighbours at an earlier date, this protest campaign might not have been so intense."
